I'll tell you this: If you're buying Guild Wars for the first time, get the first one, which is called prophecies.
If you already have that, then most people will tell you Nightfall, but I'm going to reccomend factions. After playing through Nightfall twice, I was feeling really burned out and I couldn't even play the game for a week or two, so I decided to go back to factions and make an assassin. That has revitalized my interest in this game, and I may just may have to say assassin is the most fun class I've played. People bash on factions (and usually can't really explain why the hate it, it's really just a big trend around here), but I still highly reccomend it. Nightfall, however, does give you access to heroes... and they are a HUGE bonus. So it can be a tough decision, but I still would reccomend factions. |

You're going to find a ton of of different opinions here.
First, if you know that you either want a Paragon or Dervish, then you need NF. If you want to be able to use heroes, then you need NF. If you want a Rit or an Assassin, then you need Factions. If you want to do Alliance Battles, then you need factions. (I think that everything I just said is correct... If I'm incorrect someone please correct me). Aside from that, I think that the NF PvE campaign is better than that of Factions. Granted, that's based solely on personal preferrence. I enjoyed the NF storyline more, and have enjoyed creating other characters in that chapter. I may be incorrect in saying this, but since NF came out, I've found the towns and mission locations in Factions to be a bit deserted (especially Kaineng Center, which used to be a major hub of trade). I haven't obsverved the same decrease in player participation in the Prophecies chapter. Perhaps I've just visited Factions and Prophecies at the wrong times. |

I like Nightfall more. It is longer and has a good storyline. More importantly, you get heroes. They are very helpful for almost everything. This is just IMO though.

The reason i didnt like factions is because instead of being able to run round a huge world going wherever you, you instead are stuck to one path only. Everywhere you go in factions there only 1 way to get to your net location. Especially in the city which looks terrible because its just the same reused textures over and over again.
Nightfall on the other hand is a lot more like Prophecies because instead of being restricted to where you have to go the large free landscapes give you a lot more variety and beauty. Factions still has a lot of good stuff such as alliance battles, and elite mission but after you've done them a while it gets old fast. |
